This report covers clinical aspects of burn death in chidren admitted to the Department of Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital. This analysis extends from May, 1963, to September, 1974.
Following facets of burn death in children emerged:
1. Over-all mortality of of, burn in children is 12% or 25 amoung 209 burn patients in children.
2. Mere than half of burn death in children occured under 3 years of age. Only 4 burn patients in school age died.
3, Four burn death occured under 20%. Thirteen patient died despite their depth of burn were regarded as second degree.
4. Over 2/3 of mortality cases had shock at time of admission. Four died due to shock! 5. Burn death occured within one week in 13 patient.
6. Causes of death: 11 sepsis
5 inadequate fluid replacement and shock 4 respiratory tract burn
2 shock lung or post burn respiratory distress 1 Curling´s ulcer
2 others
7. Ouly three death are caused by flame burn, remainders are by scalding.
